Inter Miami Adds Riquelme Fillipi in Youth-Focused MLS Move
Inter Miami has signed 19-year-old Brazilian winger Riquelme Fillipi from Palmeiras, adding a young attacking player as the club moves through the final stretch of the Major League Soccer season.
A long-term investment
Fillipi signed through the 2029-30 season with an option for 2030-31. He will occupy an MLS U22 Initiative slot, placing the move within the league’s broader effort to encourage clubs to develop and acquire young talent.
Before moving to Miami, Fillipi scored 30 goals and added four assists in 80 appearances for Palmeiras’ under-20 team. His production at youth level gives the club an attacking prospect with room to develop.
Miami adds another attacking option
The winger can provide additional depth in wide attacking positions. His age means the club can take a longer view, allowing him to adapt to MLS while continuing to develop his technical and tactical game.
Young signings also give clubs flexibility when building future rosters. If a player develops quickly, the club can gain a valuable contributor while maintaining a younger core.
Roster changes continue
Inter Miami also acquired an international roster slot from the New England Revolution for $200,000 in general allocation money, split between 2026 and 2027. That transaction provides additional roster flexibility around international players.
Roster mechanisms are important in MLS because clubs must balance player development, salary rules and international-player limits. Miami’s moves show how teams can use those tools together.
Why the timing matters
Adding a young player late in the season can create both immediate and future value. Fillipi may need time before becoming a regular contributor, but training with an experienced professional squad can accelerate his adaptation.
The club will ultimately judge the signing by his development, consistency and ability to contribute at the senior level.
