Hellebuyck has also represented the United States at the highest international level and helped the U.S. win Olympic gold earlier in 2026. His résumé makes the situation more significant than a typical roster request.

Hellebuyck experienced a difficult 2025-26 season by his standards. He posted a 2.86 goals-against average and a .895 save percentage, both weaker than his established career level, while Winnipeg missed the playoffs.

Those numbers do not erase his larger record. Hellebuyck has a career .916 save percentage and has repeatedly been recognized among the league’s best goaltenders.

Contract considerations

Hellebuyck is in the third year of a seven-year contract worth $59.5 million. Any potential trade would therefore involve both competitive and financial considerations for Winnipeg and an acquiring team.

The Jets will need to evaluate whether moving an elite goaltender improves the organization’s long-term position or creates a larger weakness than the one it is trying to solve.
