Tacko Fall Returns to 76ers Camp as Philadelphia Adds Center Depth
The Philadelphia 76ers have brought back 7-foot-6 center Tacko Fall on a training camp deal, adding size and experience to a roster that is preparing for a high-expectation 2026-27 season.
A familiar NBA face returns
Fall, 30, last appeared in the NBA during the 2021-22 season. He previously played for the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers before continuing his professional career overseas.
Reuters reported that Philadelphia also signed guard Jameer Nelson Jr. and forward Saint Thomas. The moves provide additional depth while the 76ers prepare for training camp and final roster decisions.
The role is not guaranteed
Fall’s agreement is designed to give him an opportunity rather than guarantee a permanent roster spot. Training camp will determine whether his size, screening, rebounding and interior defense fit the team’s plans.
At 7-foot-6, his physical profile is unusual in the modern NBA. That size can create matchup advantages around the rim, but teams also evaluate mobility, defensive positioning and offensive fit when deciding how to use a traditional center.
Philadelphia already has major expectations
The 76ers have significantly changed their roster this offseason. LeBron James joined the team, while Jaylen Brown arrived in a blockbuster trade with Boston. Joel Embiid remains the franchise’s interior star and Tyrese Maxey continues to provide perimeter creation.
That makes depth important. A team with multiple stars needs reliable reserve players who can contribute without requiring large offensive roles. Fall could compete for that kind of position if he performs well in camp.
International experience matters
Fall has spent several seasons playing outside the NBA, including time in China and Australia. That experience gives him a different professional background from players who have remained exclusively in the American system.
His return also demonstrates how training camps can reopen opportunities for experienced players. A non-guaranteed deal can become a pathway back into a regular NBA role if a player proves he can meet a team’s needs.
