A devastating Florida Learjet crash has killed nine people after a private jet plunged into a residential area of Palm Beach County on November 1, 2026. The aircraft was travelling from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas when it crashed near Greenacres, triggering a major emergency response. The Learjet 60, operated by Aurora Aviation, doing business as Upper Jet, departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport at approximately 10:37 a.m. local time. It crashed shortly before 1 p.m., according to preliminary information released by federal authorities.
Florida Learjet Crash: Investigators Examine Weather Conditions
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). According to investigators, the flight crew reported light clear icing, moderate turbulence and precipitation while cruising at approximately 35,000 feet. The pilots subsequently requested permission to climb to 37,000 feet. The situation deteriorated rapidly, with the crew reporting an overspeed condition and a steep descent before issuing an emergency call. NTSB investigator Tom Chapman said preliminary evidence suggests the aircraft may have started breaking apart before hitting the ground. However, investigators have not established what caused the aircraft to lose control.
Nine Victims Identified Following Deadly Jet Accident
Among those killed was Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, 20, the aircraft’s co-pilot. She reportedly earned her pilot’s licence at just 17 while studying through an aviation programme at West Boca Raton Community High School. The victims also included technology entrepreneur Adam Robinson, 45, his wife Helen Sharp, 40, and their children, Emma, 4, and Charlie, 2. Their family confirmed that Rachael Reed, Charmi Fehr and Anita Maria Cetina, who helped care for the children, were also among the seven passengers killed. The families remembered the victims for their love, generosity and close relationships. Their statement described the young children as the centre of their parents’ lives.
NTSB Investigation Continues as Crash Cause Remains Unknown
The aircraft crashed near the intersection of Military Trail and 10th Avenue North, scattering debris across nearby residential and commercial areas. The incident also affected the surrounding community, with local authorities coordinating emergency operations and assistance for displaced residents. The aircraft operator, Upper Jet, expressed condolences to the victims’ families and confirmed its cooperation with investigators. As of November 3, the official cause of the Florida Learjet crash remains undetermined. Investigators are examining the aircraft, flight data, weather conditions and communications with air traffic control to establish what happened during its final moments.
